A sessile serrated lesion is a type of polyp of the large bowel, usually flat in shape. It is not cancer, but it can carry a risk of turning into cancer over time. This is why it matters that it is removed completely.
Depending on the size and number of polyps and on the pathology result, follow-up colonoscopy at set intervals is needed.
