Inflammation of the stomach is called gastritis. This generally comes about through the bacterium called H. pylori, or through excessive production of acid. Ulcers, too, begin with gastritis; some cases of gastritis run their course with bleeding.
The H. pylori bacterium is widespread in 80–90% of our people. The complaints are like those of an ulcer, and it is easier to treat.
